The Church Today
Bill Bullock, Minister of Music and Education at First Baptist, has prepared the following
data on the church today:
Church membership as of June 2000 was 1,313 with 527 enrolled in Sunday School. There
are 27 teaching units in Sunday School.
In addition to the programs of missionary groups already described, there are other
activities for people of all ages. On Sunday evenings before church services we have a Discipleship
Training Classes, AWANA Bible Club for 3 year olds to the sixth grade and the Youth Ministry for grades
7 – 12. There are two children's choirs, one for kindergarten through second grade and one for third
through sixth grade with an enrollment of 40. Tuesday evenings are filled with the FAITH Evangelistic
Training and Outreach, we also have Bible study using a Christian 12 Step approach to addictions.
The senior adult department has risen to new heights with their JOY (Just Older Youth)
group. Not only do they enjoy a quarterly entertainment, but every Tuesday the Joy Notes sing at one of
the Nursing Homes. They minister to the sick and needy as well as having a wonderful time fellowshipping
with one another.
On October 31, 1994, the Autumn Family Fest had its first beginning and from that time,
it has grown from 400 registered children to over 600 registered children in 1999. These figures do not
include parents and guests who accompany the children.
The Christmas Cantata, under the direction of Bill Bullock, has expanded from one
performance to four, with an average of 250 persons each performance. Before the Thursday, Friday and
Saturday performances of the Cantata, the public is invited to participate in the Sweet Taste of Heaven
reception.
