Welcome to the First Baptist Church of Bastrop. For over one hundred and fifty years, the First Baptist Church has been serving the community of Bastrop as the first organized Baptist church in the state of Texas. Since that time, we strive to help others come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

The First Baptist Church is a family dedicated to spreading the Gospel through our community and missions. We believe Family First through God's love and have events and Bible studies for everyone. Just take some time to browse all the ministries where God is leading and working.

FBC Helps Disaster Victims

This week, FBC will begin preparing the property at Highway 71 to host the clean-up units. Today volunteers will be working to setup tarps and clearing out areas to help sift through the destruction.

This week, a major fire started just North East of Bastrop and by the end of the day, Highway 71 east of Bastrop was shut down and people evacuated. By late afternoon, First Baptist Church opened it's doors to help some evacuating the area. By late Monday, concerns for the winds that might change direction, so families were asked to find otehr places to stay.

By Tuesday, the local feeding unit was up and ready for the Cedar Creek Fire Department and began feeding the fire fighters three meals a day to support their efforts. Food and other services have been puring in thanks to efforts from around the state and the grace of God.

Wednesday, First Baptist Church was working to prepare a shelter for the victims of the Bastrop fires however the work here was halted due to the efforts of other organizations. It was determined that this shelter would not be suitable for the state needs.

But thanks to Jim Richardson, the American Red Cross was in need of services to prepare food for the shelters around the city and efforts were redirected to support them. "We are now feeding those e vacuees in shelters," says Dr. Raymon Edge. He also stated, "We have 35 families from FBC that have lost everything and that number is growing."

Dr. Edge continued stating that the Highway 71 expansion will be staging area for 100-200 people working in clean units to support the clean-up efforts when families are allowed back into the fire ravaged area.

The Southern Baptist of Texas Convention, SBTC, has sent disaster teams in to setup showers and a laundry unit. Ash-Out units and chainsaw units from all over the country will come to help with the efforts at FBC. "We have disaster teams from FBC that have gone out to help others in disasters," says Dr. Edge referring to the FBC TARP unit, laundry teams and chainsaw helpers, "Now they're here to help us. That is humbling."
